Life in Toronto #4
November 16, 2004Matt’s rules for riding the TTC:
1. Never buy tokens.
2. Feel free to ask lots questions of the ticketing attendants and/or fumble for change. Other people in line behind you won’t mind.
2. Always run for the furtherest carriage. If the doors aren’t closing keep moving from carriage to carriage until you’ve scoped out the entire train.
3. Always try to enter through the doors before other passengers exit.
4. If you sit next to someone, never move from that seat. Even if you are the last two people left in the carriage, stay in the same seat.
5. Always throw your Metro paper on the ground when finished. This way other people can use it!
6. Never speak to any other passengers. Stare blankly into space or read some of the interesting advertisements.
7. Similar to (6), if a homeless person asks you for change, pretend they don’t exist.
8. Once you have arrived at your destination, ensure to run up the stairs/escalators as quickly as possible, as every second counts!
Hope you enjoyed your ride!
Life in Toronto #3
November 14, 2004Some Canadian phrases that I regularly hear (these are very Toronto-centric):
“Go Leafs Go!”
(or should I say)
“Where’s the hockey?”
“Take care”
“Did you know Younge St is the longest street in the world?”
“It’s cold out, eh!”
“How was your vacation in Florida?”
“I’ve heard Vancouver is beautiful”
“How long does it take? 20 minutes…when there’s no traffic!”
“Did you know Toronto is the most cosmopolitan city in the world?”
The best resume on the web
November 12, 2004I wonder who will end up hiring this guy?
Monsoon
November 12, 2004This is not a post relating to bad weather. Sharon and I went to a fine eating establishment last Saturday night. We tried the tasting menu (each course is matched with a different wine). I wasn’t a fan of the unfiltered sake (it totally spoiled the taste of the magnificent Peking duck). Needless to say we didn’t feel like eating much the next day.
REM
November 12, 2004Sharon and I went and saw REM at the Hummingbird Centre on Wednesday night. Despite the venue not being conducive to live music, I thought the show was great. They are true legends.
It’s Started…
November 9, 2004It was -4C when I was walking to the subway this morning. Why am I living in such a cold place?
