Busy July

July 28, 2005

Sharon and I have been busy the last couple of weeks. Two weekends ago we went up to Algonquin Park. Very nice up there. Lots of lakes and rivers, if I ever went there again I’d do some canoeing. We camped in a really crowded site with lots of “Canadian Tire” (as Sharon likes to call them) campers – big tents, kids everywhere, parents screaming at each other. That was the first time I realized why people go backcountry. We were totally spoiled in Alberta last year.

Last weekend we visited Ottowa. It is very quiet but pleasant up there. We did all the usual touristy things – Parliament Buildings, a river cruise and Byward Markets. Sunday we went up to Gatineau Park just north of Ottowa. Considering it was only 10kms from the City Centre I couldn’t believe how nice it was. Also saw the new War Museum, but I think Canberra’s War Memorial was a lot better.

This weekend we have Natasha’s wedding.

Feelin Hot, Hot, Hot

July 12, 2005

For about a month now it’s been really hot in Toronto, and today is a stinker! When it first started to warm up in June I kept telling people, “This is nothing compared to an Australian summer”. But today feels just as hot as any summer day in Brisbane or Sydney. They really do have the extremes of weather here in Canada.

London Bombings

July 7, 2005

It feels very 9/11ish today. Even though the scale of the London bombings is a lot smaller, it still seems very shocking. All the people Sharon and I know in London are ok.

Quebec City

July 7, 2005

Sharon and I spent the long weekend in Montreal and Quebec City. Sharon was at a conference in Montreal most of the week and I flew up and met her on Thursday night. We drove up to Quebec on Friday afternoon. Some of the countryside around Quebec is really nice, especially along the banks of the St Lawrence. Quebec City is very touristy, but also quite pretty. We escaped the crowds on Saturday afternoon and caught a ferry to Levi. We had one of the best ice creams EVER over there. We had dinner that night at a traditional Quebec restaurant – lots of venison, caribou, etc on the menu. All in all a pleasant trip.
