Should I be proud of the fact that I have lived in North America for almost 3 years and am yet to set foot in a Walmart?

Childhood Memories
August 8, 2006 by schmiddySo many memories. See if any of these quotes mean anything to you:
- “You ought to be congratulated”
- “Slippery little sucker”
- “My dad picks the fruit…”
- “Aussie kids, are Weetbix kids”
- “All the way to the bottom of the jar”
- “Bee hive yourself…bee hive, yum!”
- “Get your own Honey Smacks”
- “It brings out the flavour, of any food you favour, you can’t beat…”
- “Light on the fizz so you can slam it down fast”
- “I want my……clothes off!”
- “Be in it today, live more of your life”
- “I know boats”
- “That’ll be the phone Reg”
Germany vs Greece
August 1, 2006 by schmiddyIt’s just a little too easy to link to YouTube/Google videos on your blog. Makes anyone’s website look interesting!
Here goes:
I have seen the future…
July 27, 2006 by schmiddyAnd it is WordPress! Welcome schmiddy.net blog followers, to the brave new world! I think this is the third incarnation of this site. First Blogger, then Typepad and now WordPress. I just love the simplicity of WordPress. That and the fact that it is free (and incredibly easy to import all my old posts and comments from Typepad)! So keep your eyes peeled to the site for more changes (and hopefully posts) in the not too distant future.
Life in Seattle #1
January 30, 2006 by schmiddyThe big news in town is that Seattle is going to the Superbowl. Who cares? I hear you say. Well, I probably wouldn’t if I didn’t live here, but for many Seattlites (is that what they’re called?) it’s a very big deal indeed.
It was great to have “the famous” Adam Magee visiting last week. Sharon and I managed to catch up with him a few times and it was great to hear news from the homeland. In fact, it made me extremely homesick for about 3 days but I got over it.
Seattle
January 10, 2006 by schmiddyGuess what? It’s raining in Seattle! Who would have thought? I dunno what’s worse – sunshine, snow and freezing temperatures in Toronto or bleak, rain and mild temperatures in Seattle. I think I’d take the Seattle weather any day! I’m not promising that I’ll be posting here more often but things are definitely settling down after the last few months.
Onion
October 21, 2005 by schmiddyAnd the best thing about San Francisco – this is where the Onion get’s published! Meaning everyone here can read it for free. Almost incentive to move down here I say!
Breaking the Silence
October 21, 2005 by schmiddyWell, this has been a busy few months. I am writing this post from San Francisco (of all places). It is really nice out here – sun, ocean breezes and tomorrow hopefully some wineries. Sharon and I rode bikes across the Golden Gate bridge today but couldn’t see anything through the fog. We also went out to Alcatraz. Yesterday was walking around San Francisco and Silicon Valley in the afternoon (Sharon’s friend Holly works at Yahoo).
So, why haven’t I posted in so long? To keep it short, we went on a 2 week holiday in Nova Scotia (Cape Breton island is the best), Sharon and I got engaged, Sharon’s parents visited us in Toronto, we both quit our jobs in Toronto, packed up all of our stuff and moved to Seattle. I start work at Microsoft on Monday (about bloody time as well)!
So despite all the crazyness, hopefully I’ll be able to post more once things settle down. I also think it’s time to change this site design (again) to something more boring and mainstream – we’ll see what happens.
Busy July
July 28, 2005 by schmiddySharon and I have been busy the last couple of weeks. Two weekends ago we went up to Algonquin Park. Very nice up there. Lots of lakes and rivers, if I ever went there again I’d do some canoeing. We camped in a really crowded site with lots of “Canadian Tire” (as Sharon likes to call them) campers – big tents, kids everywhere, parents screaming at each other. That was the first time I realized why people go backcountry. We were totally spoiled in Alberta last year.
Last weekend we visited Ottowa. It is very quiet but pleasant up there. We did all the usual touristy things – Parliament Buildings, a river cruise and Byward Markets. Sunday we went up to Gatineau Park just north of Ottowa. Considering it was only 10kms from the City Centre I couldn’t believe how nice it was. Also saw the new War Museum, but I think Canberra’s War Memorial was a lot better.
This weekend we have Natasha’s wedding.
