It’s close now!
Matt and I fly into Sydney late on Friday, November 17. We have our mobile phones sorted: you can reach Matt on 0422 052 955 and me on 0412 077 501. Leave a message as we won’t be able to access them until we arrive.
For those of you who will be in Sydney on Wednesday, November 22, feel free to join us for dinner/ drinks in Leichhardt. Details are TBD, so if you’re interested give us a ring; we’ll be sure to send out an email beforehand.
We also mentioned that we’re keen to have people over on Sunday, November 26. Our address is 1/94 Jarrett Street, Leichhardt (nearest cross street Excelsior St). Feel free to stop by anytime after 2pm. We’re hoping to kick on into the evening as it will be our last night in Sydney for some time.
THE BIG DAY
It all happens on Saturday, November 25, 2006. The church service starts at 3pm and is followed (albeit a little later) by the reception at 6pm.
The Church
3pm at St Francis Xavier Church, 17 Mackenzie St, Lavender Bay NSW.
The church is right behind North Sydney train station. Here are my thoughts on getting there, with or without a car. For those of you who are interested, you can read a little bit more about St Francis Xavier Church, founded in 1879.
The Reception
6pm at The Bathers’ Pavilion, 4 The Esplanade, Balmoral Beach NSW.
Ahhh Balmoral. What better way to spend a day than hanging out on a sleepy little stretch of sand surrounded by the beautiful people? Sure, parking is a nightmare and café prices are a little higher than most. But what does that matter when you’re kicking back on the terrace of a heritage listed beach “shed”, drink in hand, looking out towards the heads on Middle Harbour?
Getting from the Church to the reception will take about half an hour, perhaps a little more on a Saturday afternoon. If you’re not driving, a cab is the obvious way to go. But this really would be the perfect time to take a water taxi, as you’d alight right on the boardwalk near the Pavilion.
PLACES TO STAY
I think everyone has a pretty good idea of accommodation options in Sydney. But I’ve tried to suggest a few areas within close-ish proximity to the church service and the reception. Honestly though, just email Matt or myself if you need help.
THINGS TO DO
Between the Church service and the reception
Obviously there’s a bit of time to fill in between the church service and the reception. It’s probably about an hour and half all up, if you give yourself 30 minutes to get from Lavender Bay to Balmoral Beach.
What to do in that time? I think it’s lovely just wandering around the area. You could walk down to the end of Blues Point Road and take in a spectacular view of Sydney Harbour. There are a few cafes along the way. If it’s a certain cold beverage you’re after, then try the Commodore Hotel, just around the corner from the church. We’ve had a few good times there over the years. Of course, you could always head to Balmoral Beach a little sooner.
The day after our wedding
As mentioned, Matt and I will host drinks and nibblies at our temporary abode in Leichhardt. The address is 1/94 Jarrett Street, Leichhardt. Anytime after 2pm is fine.
Around Sydney
For those of you who aren’t so familiar with the city, I’ve listed a few things you might like to do whilst in town.
WHERE TO EAT
Food – a subject close to my heart. Perhaps a little too close..
OUR REGISTRY
We’ve decided to go with Amazon’s wedding registry service. It seems to be the best option for making purchases using an Australian (or other international) credit card and then having things delivered to our US home address. Note that the prices are in US dollars, so you’ll need to do the conversion in your head. Just type in our last names (Smith or Dowsett) and you’ll see the list.
